The Importance of Using Kill Switches

This accident occurred on Hartwell Lake, along the South Carolina/Georgia border.  The accident involved a 38-foot Fountain go-fast costing around $375,000.  The vessel owner/operator only had the boat about a week and had not even made the first payment.  He was traveling at an estimated 80 mph when made a sharp turn.  This resulted in he and his passenger being ejected from the boat.  Since he did not have his kill switch lanyards attached, the vessel kept going, steadily accelerating until it hit the banked shore, went airborne and found a tree.  The force of the impact split the hull.  Neither of the vessel's occupants were wearing PFDs.  Despite this, they survived  - - miraculous
