MILFORD FLOTILLA 24-3 USCG AUXILIARY INVITES VOLUNTEERS
With added responsibilities, the Milford unit of the United
States Coast Guard Auxiliary is welcoming new members to their flotilla.
The Milford organization actively supports Coast Guard Station New Haven
using their 31’ vessel for safety patrols and search and rescue
operations on Long Island Sound. The group also provides free vessel
examinations and offers public education classes with Connecticut Safe Boating
Certificates issued to those who successfully graduate.
The USCG Auxiliary is a non-military, non-law enforcement volunteer group.
Members must be U.S. citizens, male or female, and over the age of 17.
Although helpful, boating experience is not mandatory as members are
trained using Coast Guard provided materials. In addition to
water related operations, members may receive training as instructors,
inspectors, or support personnel such as radio operators and clerical workers.
Meetings are held at 8:00 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at
1 Helwig Street, Milford. Those interested in joining are
requested to arrive at 7:30 p.m. For more information please contact
Flotilla243 or call 203-874-0200.
"My call tonight is for every American to commit…to the service of your
neighbors and your Nation" said President Bush in his State of the Union
address on January 29, 2002. The USCG Auxiliary is a perfect venue to meet
that challenge on both fronts.
